8gb = £350, 16gb = £450-£500 according to TrustedReviews

Nothing is confirmed yet though is it? and according to the article (on trustedreviews) o2 will just be testing the waters on the pricing... so early adopters are sure to get stung

That's like $1000, which means AT&T are giving the phone a $700 subsidy .

There is no way it'll be that much, because there is no way its worth that much. I certainly wouldn't pay £470 for the 16GB iPhone.

I think O2 may have lost a potential customer, that's pretty steep. I might pay that if it had 32Gb and a 5MP camera

EDIT

The more I think about it, this it is extortionate, that's half a macbook !

Should be significant backlash over this in the coming week. Hopefully O2 will realise that if even Apple fans are digruntled over the price, Joe Public is even less likely to be impressed.

£269 for PAYG 16GB, maybe after midnight tonight when your tucked up in bed. ;)

The iPhone hardly costs more to make than the iPod Touch, and they get the money from the phone calls and data that you use, which wont be cheap for the user.

£269 would get everyone buying an iPod Touch to get one as an O2 customer. Now that may be a little too good to be true, but £299 is definitely plausible.

Wtf?

Uhm, so it's gonna be £450 - £500 for the same product that retails for 569 euros in Italy on Vodafone..... talk about a rip-off.
And that's without considering the fact it's going to be simlocked, as opposed to the Italian one.

Seriously, I think it may be cheaper for me to just get a ryanair flight and go get the thing in Italy.

The real ball park figures are £269 (8gb) and £329 (16gb) as that is what the iPhone used to cost.

I'm not too sure about this. The iPhone used to cost that much because it was implied that you'd get it and have to sign up for a contract, and Apple would be getting a percentage of the monthly tariff. So, in that sense, the iPhone was really 'worth' £269 + their percentage. If they were receiving 10% of the total cost of the contract, then Apple's gross takings for the phone would be ~£332 for the £35/month contract.

For me, £269 is an absolute lower bound for the cost of the phone. I'd imagine the price would be much closer to £350 than £269, though, so these figures might not be so inaccurate.

But it was sold unsubsidised. And those figures give a plausible subsidy for the pay-monthly phone, though it does depend if the iPhone gives you cashback for your old phone...

At those laughable prices they aren't going to sell many.

Hopefully they are just rumours and they have learnt their lesson from iphone 1 not selling at high prices.

Err... it's comparable with the Italian prices.

This is just standard practice. Anybody who expected it go for less is either an idiot or deluded. The N96 is estimated to be around £600 Sim only.

You are batter off just buying the 16GB on contact at £789 over the 18months at least you will get 600mins 500texts along with the data. Just think what ever the price of the pay as you go Iphone is you will still need to pay for the data to get the full use of it and thats going to cost a min of £7.50 a month as well. :)

Hmm well these are my options...

PAYG (£15 * 18 months) + £470 = £740
Contract (£35 * 18 months) + £159 = £789
No iPhone £0 * 0 months = £0 XD

God dammit O2, it almost adds up grr...
