I'm pretty sure you can go into the store, get value, and they will/can apply that toward the phone to lessen installments. You can check for the value of the phone on the ATT website. If your looking to get top dollar I'm hearing craigslist and ebay are the place.

Did anyone do this last year while reserving their phone for in-store pickup? My preorders have always been for home delivery.
