Greetings,

I am a lifelong PC user waiting for my first mac: A PB 17" 1.5GHz 2GB RAM. FedEx says Wednesday!! (woohoo!)

Before I get flamed, I know there have been at least three threads concerning what the best carrying case for a PB 17" is on this forum. I have read and researched them all. I have also seen the posts regarding the weaknesses of the aluminum PB body, which I find somewhat disturbing.

Although I certainly welcome any opinions on what you think the best carrying case / combination is, my primary question is this:

Does anyone know the logic behind the "sleeves" inside a soft bag? It seems to me that this is counter-intuitive. I really like the idea of a messenger-type bag (I am bicycling to work), but am extremely nervous about having the cushion on the outside, and the hard shell right next to the laptop. It seems to me that this would not be very effective.

Does anyone have any experience, positive or negative, regarding this type of setup? My paranoia is saying get a hardcase (ugly, difficult to carry on a bicycle) for this $5000 piece of machinery, but I really like the look and flexibility of say a timbuk2 messenger bag / braincase sleeve combination.

Any comments, stories or anecdotes greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Mike
