I regularly use a trusty old bronze keyboard, 333 MHz, 128 MB RAM Powerbook, but its usability has been greatly decreased by not being able to use its battery. It worked in the past just fine, but just last spring, I noticed that the included Apple battery wasn't at all charged, even though it was in the battery bay and the computer was plugged in. We usually keep the battery in its bay and the PB plugged in at home. Perhaps it died from constant charging? My father went and bought a brand new 3rd party battery intended for the Lombard/Pismo line, and it fits well into either the right (5.25 inch) or left (3.5 inch) bays, but the Powerbook doesn't recognize that a thing is plugged in. Looking into the bays, I can see that the battery connectors are clear of obstructions. The battery appears to be pretty good, but I'm really not sure what to do, as I haven't tried it on any other computers. It's probably either a software problem, a bad battery, bad battery controller hardware, or perhaps a bad connection between a good battery and a good computer. Or it could be any combination of the above! If you can help, I'd be much obliged. It's an awful feeling of using macs for 12 years and still not knowing how to fix them all the time.

edit: I forgot to mention that the PB is running OS 9.2.2 (a 4 gig hard drive is not big enough to put on OS X and all the music I have)
2nd edit: I looked at https://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44321&goto=nextoldest, but that guy had a problem with not recharging, whereas this PB (I'm using the problem machine now) doesn't even see the battery.
