PB G4 1.33Ghz with dead ? CD/DVD drive

I have tried every trick in the book, every command etc. but the drive will not accept a CD, No there is not a CD already in the drive. The machine does see the drive under system profiler - disc burning option.

I have tried every thing all the tricks buttons etc.. firmware boot - itunes etc. mouse left click etc. etc..

Any ideas ? is it just plain old dead ?

I would say it's a dead drive. The lasers do go bad all the time.

My 12" PB 1.5 optical drive went bad after 18 months.

Yeah I think its dead, I wonder if I can replace it my self ? I installed ram in my Mini so it cant be any worst then trying to open a Mac Mini

Probably not.. A few more screws though. There are some good guides on iFixit.com.
