PB issues when is turning on

hi.

everytime that im turning my PB on, before i get to the APPLE icon, i get folder with the finder face and it takes like 3 minutes before it goes away,after it the mac os x screen starts loading.

this started happening 2 days ago and i dunno why?

My only guess is try going to:
system prefrences-->Startup Disk (then set the disk)

How does it start if you hold down the D key while booting?
