PB screen question

When I attach my PB to my ACD I get a the split screen, nice!

But sometimes I just want to have the picture on the ACD, in order to save some battery and I think that the graphics-card has to split it's "power" when both screens are running.

How is it done?

EDIT: finally found a thread on MR about the same topic. no response needed. thanx anyway.
