PB wont let me login!!

I get to the login screen on my powerbook. i type in my password and hit login. then login screen goes away and all im left with is the apple background and my mouse pointer. nothing is showing up!!!

Do you show any tasks running if you cmd+option+escape? Finder at least?

Here's some help from Apple, though it assumes you're running 10.3.9 or earlier. Do you have any peripherals attached to the machine? Have you recently updated firmware or upgraded your RAM?

i ended up having to call apple tech support and they told me that i had to re-install OS X and now everthing works fine (minus a few personal settings). i couldnt even do cmd+option+escape and i had no other users, even the tech guy didnt know what happened!
