Pbook won't start up past Apple Screen

Well, I was just looking around the net and everything just froze and I had to do a hard restart and everytime I've tried to restart it, it only goes to grey apple screen. I put in the disk utility and I'm reparing the permissions now. If this doesn't work, is there anyway I could save my files in case I've gotta do a restore? And of course this happens at Enlish paper time so I need a good bit of stuff off of it. Luckily, not my paper, just sources.Thanks for the help guys. It's very very very very appreciated.

Well, I got this message from the Disk Utility.
"Disk Utility has lost its connection with the Disk Management Tool and canoot continue. Please quit and relaunch Disk utility."
That doesnt' sound very good to me. Lemme try it again.
EDIT2: I got it to start back up. I remembered about the whole PRAM reset and that did the trick, i'mgonna back everything up now and restore pretty soon.
