Pc help

I have a netgear USB dongle Plugged into my pc. This morning I took it out because I wanted to plug my pendrive in, now the netgear USB dongle is plugged back in, but not working, any suggestions?

What specific OS is running on that PC, as they can run a variety of Linux distros or Windows versions.
If it is Windows, most probably, does it show up in the Device Manager, or can you use another USB port?

I have Windows 7. It won't in any of the USB ports, but my pendrive will. That means its the netgear dongle and not my pc? But I don't understand how it can suddenly stop working!? Its fairly new
