I'm not sure where to put this. I don't know what I'm looking for, so I'll start here.

I would like to access files on my iMac from my MB while connected to the internet. I don't know if there is software for that, or how to do it. Any suggestions where to learn what I need would be greatly appreciated.

on iMac:System preferences -> Sharing-> tick 'personal file sharing'

on MB: Open finder-> click network, wait a minute, click the folders, find your iMac, mount

The contents of your iMac should be accessible from your MB

are you talking about accessing files from another location? both units have FTP built right in, its one way you can do it, but you will have to open some ports in your router, and hope your ISP isn't port blocking like mine does (charter) not sure if there is a software for apple like logmein.com has for for a windows machine (one of my favorite softwares) it blasts through firewalls and all (not sure how but it works)

hope this helps a little..
