i have ibook g4 with 1 slot for pc2100 DDR266
but I want to buy PB 15.2 this x-mas. so i want to get the rams in advance.

They are both SO-DIMM 200pin.

so can I use the PB's ram in my iBooks g4?

do they have the same shape?

is it like PC, u have a DDR266 Mainboard and buy DDR400 for the future?

In theory it's possible, but you risk kernel panic - so it's probably worth doing, just bear in mind that problems may crop up while using the faster RAM in the iBook.

Out of curiousity, is the reverse true? can you use slower RAM in a newer computer without is causing anything but possible kernal panics?
200Pin Matching the only real problem?

333 will work in 266, just at 266 speeds. Shouldn't be a problem. You'd be getting Kernal Panics if it's bad RAM, but the speed shouldn't matter. 266 will sometimes work in 333, sometimes not. With RAM prices nowadays, if you're asking if you should just buy a 333 SO-DIMM now and use it later in the PB, I'd say yes. That would be the way to go.

What I'm actually interested in, is who can I sell/give my two old DDR 2700 PB (so 200pin) 256sticks to when I replace them with two 512 sticks.

Can my Dad use them in place of his PC133 sticks in an 867 PB?

are SDRAM and DDR compatible? backwards compatible?

I thought I knew RAM, I am finding myself sorely mistaken :(
