Anybody have an opinion as to testing the vulnerability/privacy of your Mac to port scans through these two web sites?
PCFlank
ShiledsUp
I used to use these back in the day when I was in Windows land trying to make my old PC as invisible as possible. Today, I decided just out of curiosity to see how my iMac faired with these scans.
ShieldsUp reports my iMac as Stealthed (as I hoped and expected)
PCFlank says port 139 is visible (ShieldsUp says 139 is stealthed!) and they recommed a firewall for me to buy too!
It makes me wonder just how reliable some of these tests are if, as it appears, they are promoting third party products.
I guess it doesn't really matter in the long run as even though port 139 may be visible the chances of somebody being able to do anything with it is probably very remote ('cause it's a Mac!) but one of these tests must be wrong. Question is, which one?
