Thanks for that info. Looking for answers on the internet really doesn't provide a good one. As to "no point", for now maybe but in two to three years time there will be. PC board makers are already there; Apple, as usual, is not.Thunderbolt 4 is only PCIe 3.0. There’s no point in making PCIe 4.0 enclosures.

I know about the Mac Pro but my goal is to own a Mac Studio with external storage. I should have been more specific when I made the comment about Apple being behind. The 2023 Mac Pro PCIe slots are PCIe 4.0.
We'll need to wait for Thunderbolt 5 before we see external enclosures that can reach PCIe 4.0 speeds.
as said by others, TB4 is still PCIe 3.0, so it doesn't matter. The 4M2 is a PCIe 3.0 device.
But it’s not what the OP was asking for, and it’s not a fast enclosure either. It’s not even Thunderbolt 4.as said by others, TB4 is still PCIe 3.0, so it doesn't matter.
