I know this sounds crazy, but bear with me for a second.
Currently Intel's chip used in MBA includes CPU and CPU on the same die. So the GPU is not using PCIE to access data.
What if Apple use PCIE as SSD interface instead of SATA3, the speed gain could be in the range of 2-3 times faster than current 500MB/s I presume?
Again, this probably works provided no other application is using PCIE
To my understanding Thunderbolt is also using PCIe access, perhaps wider lanes to incorporate both uses?
