I have 2 5,1 cMPs. One is mine, it is always connected with a LAN cable. The other one I am giving to my son. Where he lives he only has WiFi and it is a bit of a distance away.
If he is not worried about all the Apple features like Handoff, etc., is a PCIe a good solution? All he wants is to be able to connect to the internet.
Is there a PCIe card that works well? Any that should be avoided?
I am looking for the simple and budget friendly option. Amazon seems to have a bunch of options, I just want to make sure I get something that works.

Why not just use a USB WiFi adapter? Lots of options and budget friendly.

Aren't the 5,1's limited to USB 2.0, if so USB is a bad idea you won't get anywhere near the bandwidth you can theoretically get with WiFi.
OK, that makes sense. However, I have a PCIe USB 3.0 card. Would a WiFi USB adapter in that work to give decent speeds?

It needs to be a WiFi chip model supported by the version of macOS you have installed. The following guide outlines the options for adding/updating Bluetooth and WiFi
