Greetings, I hope that you will be able to help me as I have spent many hours researching forums and trying to troubleshoot on my own, but something strange is definitely happening and I don't know the procedure "step by step" to go to the root of the problem. If you someone among you is savy enough to please be able to guide me, I'd be most grateful!
I recently acquired a second-hand MacBook, (moving from an ibook - I have been working with apple computers since 1994 so am quite familiar about many "standard" procedures) and since then have several issues, the one exposed here about PDFs:
* If I create a PDF document (from Word for example) and then want to save to a lighter version, I used to go to the Adobe PDF sofware and click on "Reduce File Size" and get a very good downscale. Now I get still a lighter file but barely so. (for example if my PDF is 21 MB it used to bring it down to 1-3 MB, now it would be 7-10 MB).
- I tried to open the PDF file into PREVIEW and then do a "Save as" PDF with the Quartz Filter on "Reduce File Size". This brings by PDF up multi-fold!!! (so if my file is 1.2 MB it brings it to 250 MB for example).
- I created a new filter via Postscript and asked for JPG images reduced well beyond half, and then it saves it multi-fold as well! (so a 15.7 MB file for example becomes 1.9 GB)
.
Something is definitly acting strange and I'm at a loss as to what I can do
Could the fact that I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9: version 9.0.0 be some sort of conflict? (I did uninstall it and the "PDF process" still behaved the same).
Thank you for any help that you could provide - or recommend me another software Freeware ideally - where such file reduction is possible? I work a lot via PDF, just got this computer, and it's making my life very complicated
Many thank yous!
