This is extremely annoying, because I'm doing something extremely important.

All of a sudden out of nowhere, one, and ONLY one PDF, will only print on 1/4 of a page.

Everything else prints fine, other PDFs print to full pages, anything outside of Safari prints as it should--it's just this ONE PDF in Safari, it's driving me crazy.

I've logged out, logged back in, restarted my MBP, even reset safari--and nothing at all. All printer settings/scaling are as they should be, and the preview shows a full page document, but what comes out of the printer is 1/4 page.

Help!

Here's the PDF: http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/81807.pdf

It prints fine in FF, but for some reason it's coming out super light/blurry/grayscale/crappy, so it's no good.

Prints fine for me from Safari

What printer are you using, and have you checked to make sure the scale is 100%?
What does it look like in the preview?

Canon PIXMA iP90v, everything is scaled to 100% and the preview shows me the right image:

I logged in under the guest user account, same result.

Hmmmmm, I can mail you the copy I printed :D

How about right clicking the link and downloading the file and trying it in Preview instead of Safari?

Hmm, ok that worked--but--the color is way off, just like the one printed in Firefox. Only about half as dark as it should be. WTF??

Ha! You want me to change the oil in your car too! :D

I have no idea about that
Have you checked your printer cartridge to make sure that isn't problem
Everything else prints the right color/darkness?

Brand new black cartridge yesterday, literally.

Everything else, every word document, every other PDF, prints exactly as it should from Safari, black as night, just as it should.

Until today this one printed just fine too.

I've now pissed away two hours trying to get one rotten copy of this form, completely screwed my/our mental state that we were in to do these forms, and I'm just fed up.

I'm at my wits end.

I installed opera, tried from there, same unusable low quality light printing as from firefox and preview.

You say you have printed this same form before and it was dark?
Same file, same printer, same everything?

The one I printed looks fine too

Yep, no problems before, exact same thing.

Don't ask me why, but this time it printed nice and dark like it should in preview--so I printed five copies.

NO IDEA what caused this, why it quit working for no reason, and why it all of a sudden decided to start working again, but I got it.

What a complete and unnecessary waste of 2.5 hours, not to mention the sheer loss of raw productivity and getting this form done tonight. Won't have time to do it now until next Saturday.

Though it still won't print right in Safari, so it's another wonderful Apple product it looks like. It's getting harder and harder to justify giving Steve Jobs any money for increasingly mediocre products. I never had this many problems with windows, and when this computer craps out as I'm sure it will, it's gonna take a lot of dancing on Jobs' part to let me put $3k in his pocket again.

I still don't know why it won't print the way it's supposed to in Safari, but I wasted well over half an ink tank trying to find out. I'm certainly not going to jump through the hoops of an OS reinstall, I just don't have time, back up or not.
