One reviewer states it carshes under 10.6.8, which is the OSX version I am happening to use.

Yes, Recover PDF Password is a good tool. Cause if have have a problem even to open your PDF file, it is protected with user password. And only this utility can open this type of passwords.
I use 10,6 and i have no crashes, so don't worry about this
