I noticed recently that my Pegasus J4 no longer works reliably with the latest OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 and 10.11.5. The symptoms are that it will randomly hang when copying files to or from the J4. The hangs happen quite quickly, within a minute or two of a copy operation. I tested on multiple computers and started with a freshly created 4x 1TB RAID0 volume using the command line diskutil tool.
I contacted Promise tech support and their reply is that the J4 is no longer supported and that El Capitan is not compatible and referenced a chart that shows support only till 10.8.4, which is obviously incorrect since the Promise web site posted a new driver on 2014/07/31 so I presume that OS X Yosemite (10.10.5) was officially supported.
I believe an earlier version of OS X El Capitan worked with the J4 successfully so I believe something changed in recent releases of El Capitan. Possibly it may even be a bug in OS X. And maybe it's fixed in macOS Sierra.
I would love to hear from anyone using a J4 and your experiences.
