Long-time Apple supply partner Pegatron could be lined up to handle more than 50 percent of the production load for 2015's next-generation iPhone, according to a foreign brokerage report (via Focus Taiwan).

Apple stepped up efforts to diversify its supply chain to reduce risk when Tim Cook took over as CEO in 2011, bringing on more supply partners to keep up with the increasing demand for each iteration of the iPhone. According to the new report, Pegatron could be receiving the bulk of the so-called iPhone 6s 2015 supply orders from Apple after gradually ramping its role with the iPhone 5c and iPhone 6.

"For the next product cycle, iPhone 6S, likely out in September 2015, we believe for the first time in the iPhone history, Pegatron will become the main source for assembly, with more than 50 percent of the 4.7-inch allocation," the European brokerage said in a note to clients on Monday.
The note also stated that most of Apple's partners actually tend to lose money in the first few years of their iPhone business, due to the complexity involved in manufacturing the iPhone.

Pegatron handled the majority of assembly for the iPhone 5c in 2013, and recently assisted Apple in boosting production on both the iPhone 6 and perhaps even the iPhone 6 Plus in response to strong demand following the two devices' launch.

According to the new report, Pegatron received 30 percent of Apple's iPhone 6 orders this year, with Foxconn handling the remaining 70 percent. The brokerage also states that Foxconn has received all of the iPhone 6 Plus orders this year, though previous reports claim Apple asked Pegatron to begin supplementing production on the 5.5-inch iPhone as Foxconn has struggled to meet demand.

Looking ahead to 2015, the report also claims that in addition to the next 4.7-inch iPhone model "there is also a small possibility that Pegatron will win the 5.5-inch model as well, but this remains to be seen."

As with all the other iPhones, this will be a big 6s when Apple announces it.

I cannot wait for the iPhone 6s and I'm just glad to see any rumor of it!

I just can't be silent about this any more. You guys know that I love Apple stuff—everything from the hardware to the software design and I even think many of the executives are awesome and I love their stance on consumer privacy—but I've about had it with my iPhone 6 Plus!

I don't care if the iPhone 6s is the exact same as the 6 but just has 2GB of RAM, the difference between my iPhone 6 Plus and my iPad Air 2 is like night and day when it comes to crashes and reloads. I'm downsizing to the 4.7" model too. This Plus is just a little bit too big—mainly slightly too wide to comfortably reach across the screen, and a bit too long to be comfortable for extended periods in my fairly loose fitting pants. But that's my fault. What really drives me crazy is that the crashing has become so annoying that I wish I could go back and keep my old iPhone 5. The 64-bit chip that limits the 1GB of RAM compared to my old iPhone 5 is really apparent, especially with the higher resolution screen that has to show more content and scale it down from @3X. The only thing I like about this over the 5 is the display (mainly the color and closeness of the pixels to the surface), camera and battery life. The speed really isn't much of a difference, and the battery life is only better because I got the Plus. For me speed matters more on the iPad because that's where I do some of my creative work and gaming. I really don't care how fast my phone is at this point because it does everything I need. I just want it to stop crashing. I've gotten to the point where I can't even switch between two tabs without them reloading, and sometimes just loading one tab makes an error banner appear at the top of the screen, sometimes going in a loop until the site finally loads properly. Crashing back to the home screen happens many times during the day, sometimes causing a soft reboot. Certain apps glitch out, especially when rotating the screen, like videos. The thing has just been one glitch after another. I'm tired of it! For the first time ever I'm really starting to not like my iPhone. As an Apple shareholder this scares the crap out of me, because if someone who is a hardcore fanboy like me feels this way, then damn. On the other hand, my iPad Air 2 is one of the most fantastic Apple devices I've ever owned. If only I could shrink it down to 5" and put the necessary cellular hardware into it with an iPhone 6 camera it would be the perfect iPhone.

Sorry for the rant.

I hear you on the crashing, but is that the result of hardware? I figured it was due to the insane pace of iOS releases and feature additions. We need a Snow Leopard iOS release that adds no new features at all besides those required to work with new hardware.

Except it'll be the iphone 7 and 7+, not 6S and 6+S..

;)

¿Is there some other rumor that I've missed that leads you to think that?

The only reason I imagine they might jump right to 7 is if they're changing the form factor again so soon.

Don't be sorry.
You're spot on and it's massively disappointing to see Apple ship inferior hardware to this extend.
No, they were never generous with RAM, but 1GB in 2014, even with iOS being optimized, on the flagship of their phones... it's just embarrassing, sorry but there is no way to sugarcoat this.

Yeah, there's been several rumblings about Apple ditching the 'S' suffix.
I think they realise it carries some negative associations, and increasingly sounds silly...

It doesn't mean they have to change the form factor.. just look at the iPad naming conventions for proof. Heck, the iPad Mini 3 is just the 2 + TouchID !!

I have bought every "S" model iPhones since the iPhone 3GS. With each one I have noticed two things:

1) The manufacturing glitches are worked out (e.g.: iPhone 5 finish scratching off)

2) The "S" model adds features and performance that give the phone more overall longevity

The brand-new remodeled iPhones are nice to show off, but it seems to me that because there is no new body style on the "S" model that Apple has to try harder on the performance and feature side to make the "S" model appealing enough for upgrade.

I have to admit, when I saw the iPhone 6 Plus I was going to break form for the first time and upgrade after only 12 months of owning an iPhone 5s. The new iPhones are beautiful and that camera is awesome. I drove my wife crazy swinging back and forth on whether or not I was going to upgrade. The one thing that held me back from upgrading was the fact that these new iPhones only had 1GB of RAM.

If Apple had gone with 2GB of RAM, then they would have had at least one more person doing the upgrade today. But I just could not see upgrading to a larger screen on a device that uses shared memory architecture for apps + graphics and driving so many more pixels. The more pixels you are driving in a shared memory architecture, the less RAM that is left for the apps. I simply could not imagine effectively reducing my available RAM for apps.

I did, however, order an iPad Air 2 to upgrade from the iPad 4. It is due to arrive today (or tomorrow). One of the key factors in getting me to upgrade my iPad this year was the 2GB of RAM (and 3 cores). I owned every model year iPad except for the iPad Air. The only reason I skipped that one is that it bothered me that it would run the same RAM and same GPU/CPU as an iPhone. In the past, at least one, if not both, the RAM, GPU or CPU was better on the iPad than the iPhone. I couldn't see spending the money to go from an A6X iPad 4 to an A7 iPad Air. It seemed the only improvements was minor performance bump and the slimmer design. This year the iPad is worth the upgrade.

Next year I plan on purchasing the iPhone 6s Plus (assuming it comes with 2GB RAM).

2GB of Ram - 6s - s for sapphire (but coating over gorilla glass) - keeps 8MP camera for 5th gen in a row ;) calling it.

You have some inside information about Apple dropping the 's' from their iPhone model designation for the next iPhone???

I may be wrong, but even Apple at this point knows that it's time to give the camera a serious upgrade. Sony has the advanced camera components ready, Apple just needs to place the order. Sapphire being the main selling point would be laughable.

I'm glad that someone who has been around here even longer than me also gets it. The struggle is real with this phone. If power requirements were an issue then they should have just lowered the clock and then double the RAM. There is no real reason to have an iPhone that is this fast if it just crashes all the time. Not even that but my Plus usually lasts me two days. I'd gladly trade that away for more stability. Being the flagship device it should have shipped with 2GB of RAM like the iPad Air 2. I think a lot of people who haven't purchased the iPad Air 2 don't realize just how bad the iPhone 6/Plus are. Although I imagine the Plus is the worse device of the two models with the higher resolution and scaling. It really is a night and day difference when I use my iPhone vs. my iPad. I'm buying the hell out of that iPhone 6s 128GB. I mean, there's no way they would skimp on RAM next year right?

Maybe they'll equip it with 1.5GB of RAM. :D
Like they went from dual-core to tri-core, not as commonly expected to quad-core. (on the iPad Air 2 compared to Air 1 that is)

Joking aside, I guess 2GB is save to expect on the next iPhone.
It's what I'm looking forward to the most.
By the time we get 2GB, 4GB will slowly become a thought, and they might introduce that well past the point of need. I hope I'm wrong though. :p
