I actually have that case and it is rather bulky. I've used the 1490 and that one is a bit more manageable.

If you want to protect your laptop, then that's the way to go. I've used them when I went to Kuwait and did not have any problems.
 
Pelican stuff can be a little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

I keep about 5k worth of mics in one of the their other cases and it's totally worth it for the peace of mind.

I'll probably be getting something like that if I ever start using the MBP I'm getting on gigs.
 
I use one since the rain can come down pretty hard around here, without notice.

The only thing I DON'T like about it is that it doesn't make a cool "beep beep" sound followed by a "ssshhhhhhhh" decompressing noise whenever I open the case.
