Just noticed on the Apple website (apologies if it has already been mentioned) but 15 seconds of charging for the Pencil equates to 30 minutes of battery life! I thought that was pretty impressive!

I have no experiences with styluses, but isn't it a little tedious to have to charge it every 30 minutes? (I feel like I'm missing something; apologies if I do.)

"15 seconds of charging gets you 30 minutes battery life" doesn't mean you cannot charge it for more than 15 seconds. A full charge gets you 12 hours.

I think its fast charging but if you let it stay connected it will charge up more - I hope. The small battery in my SP3's stylus is great, it lasts for months, so I suspect the battery in the pencil will be just as good.

Thats some seriously quick charging right there. Show how little energy the pencil needs. impressive, very impressive. I was wondering if the lightning connector has like a rubber base or can pivot. Lots of leverage if u were to bend the tip of the pencil while its charging... wouldn't want to snap of that lightning connector.
I thought apple said the battery lasts for like months, or am I mixing something up?

The battery in the new Apple TV remote lasts for up to 3 months.

That was the battery in the Apple TV remote, one charge was equal to 3 months of normal usage

That really is impressive. I love that Apple designed the Apple Pencil with the lightning connector. This will be such the life saver on the road... Seriously, why do i have to wait all the way till November? Grr

But then your iPad runs for 10 minutes less.... Nah, can't use that many watts.

But is the battery replaceable? I'm sure it's not user serviceable, Apple being Apple.

My theory on this is that there is a battery in parallel with a capacitor, (and associated isolation circuitry/current divider rule and all, so the capacitor charges first, but I have to draw this out to fully solve this reverse engineering problem), so that the capacitor charges first, providing the power to the pencil circuitry for the 30 minutes, and battery providing a longer charge, and more electrical storage capacity.

I'd love it if the iPad Pro, with all of that empty space, did the same. 15 second charge gives 30 minutes of life, but that might be a bit more current draw...

The Apple Pencil is Apple's first great leap and is a great product. While I am irked that the Apple Pencil is only compatible with iPad Pro and not all Apple products, the 12.9" screen is amazing real estate for artists, 3D Cad designers..ect. I know this is an iPad thread, but Samsung still is is the winner of the stylus with fine point precision, no bluetooth connectivity, Built-in to Tablet/smartphone, no battery (no charging).

Does samsung's stylus detect force and tilt?

Does samsung's stylus detect force and tilt?
From the Galaxy Note 4's Advanced S-Pen introduction:
"The Advanced S Pen will be able to work with the Galaxy Note 4 or Galaxy Note Edge and in addition to more levels of pressure sensitivity the pen will work with the phones to recognize speed, tilt and rotation."

Does samsung's stylus detect force and tilt?

The pressure sensitivity, 1024 levels, has been working already from the year 2012 in the original Note10.1. The tilting is abit newer feature and working only in the newer spen technology. Apps can also recognize the tilting, like Artrage...
