Did the forget on the pencil Pro, did the hard reset on the M4 iPad Pro after the update to the official version of iPadOS 26. APP 2 connect just fine to the BT, but the pencil is not recognized. It has been on the iPad Pro for an hour, so would be fully charged. It has been away from the Magic Keyboard.
I have AppleCare+ and I called speaking with 2nd tier tech support but could not fix the unit. Any ideas?

Also, lis the serial number supposed to be on the brass colored tip once the replaceable tip is screwed off?
The box with the serial number is at home.

interesting. I didn't see this post when I made my post complaining about the gen 1 Apple Pencil constantly disconnecting and needed to be reconnected to the iPad a16. I ended up downgrading back to ios18 while I could. I use the Apple Pencil everyday for work as it stands right now, ios26 is useless with the Apple Pencil.

I just purchased iPad Pro M5 with Apple Pencil Pro and it:
- pairs (either via attaching it or going through Find My - Add Apple Pencil, then attach to the iPad)
- it is recognized, squeeze and double tap is recognized in Notes App, though no input is recognized from the pencil - can't write, can't "tap" any app, menu, etc.

Wondering whether it is a software "mess" or simply hardware defect. I guess Ill take it to the store checking it on a different iPad.

Honestly, I am this close returning both, as my A12X iPad Pro with iOS 18 and Apple Pencil works for years without single issue. So one expects the same when moving forward..

I was lucky enough to be able to downgrade to ios 18. So I guess I'll just wait until 26.1 or 26.2 to update.

I bought a Pencil Pro on ebay for cheap. It was identified as a fake by Apple Store, but the genuine article works on iOS 26 perfectly. The packaging of the pencil was amazingly like the genuine article. One way to work out if it is a fake is to check for serial number inside the pen, when the tip is removed. Maybe the fake used to work under 18 and now they don't.

It was relatively quick once I have verified what is up. In the App store I have tested the potentially defective Apple Pencil on their iPad Pro and indeed the Pencil was defective.
They have replaced it immediately and this resolved all the problems I had with the iPad and Apple Pencil Pro.

I have installed the 26.1 Beta 4 to set the glass to tinted variant, and this basically resolved the iPadOS issues I had.

I have to admit, when going through video lessons on external screen and taking notes on the iPad at the same time is pretty nice. (I have paired BT mouse so iPad allows me to use extended screen instead of mirroring and connected the display with TB cable)
