Penryn MBP seems to run much cooler than Merom

Anyone else have this experience in a significant way? I can actually put the "notebook" on my lap without feeling the burn.

It should, the Penryn 45 nm chip puts out significantly less heat than the Merom

My penryn MBP runs at 49C most of the time. Shoots up to 63C when ripping n encoding (Handbrake). I am happy !!

what does your Merom machine run at ? I used to have 2.2 merom now I have the 2.4 Penryn.

Yes, I was very surprised how much cooler it was. The previous version on AC on a lap was downright painful. The one is quite tolerable.

I've been sitting at the mall doing a lab report. web surfing, and downloading torrents for the past hour or so, and I'm currently running at 113F/45C.

I rarely get over 130F/55C, but, I also don't have ProTools loaded up yet. But Reason doesn't push it much higher.

Oh yeah, and my battery life is kick-butt. 5-hours of class life, easily.
