I've searched this site and noticed some posts on this, but not too many to believe it's really prevalent. My machine is about a month old and the creaking I'm getting in my left palmrest, although not severe, is driving me a bit batty.

I guess I just wanted to find out if this is something Apple will actually fix if I make an appt with a genius (ie. is the fix simple, or does it require a new top case?), and will I get my actual computer back if I have them service it? Everything else about it is great, don't notice the screen yellowing/no dead pixels, keyboard has just the right feel, etc.

Did you upgrade the hard drive? I upgraded mine with a wd Scorpio 250 gb. The new hd was slighlty thicker causing it to make a creaking noise on the left hand side. Once I put back in the original fujitsu 200 gb the noise went away.

nope... I don't have this problem, I don't have any perceivable flex, let alone creaking. they should definitely fix it for you
