The yellow caps of iTunes Pepsis say "Game Ends 4/11/05", which is today. I thought forum members might like to know what that means.

1. Today is the last day for daily drawings to win an iPod mini. There will be one last drawing May 2, 2005 for all those who redeemed free iTunes through April 30, 2005.

2. Yellow cap Pepsis are sold up until today, or until supplies last. That means that new deliveries to stores are ceasing, but that those still on store shelves are still available and can still get you free iTunes.

3. Today is the last day to postmark a request for a "game piece" (equivalent to a Pepsi cap) by mail. I don't know if anybody really does that, but it's a law that they must offer you a game piece free if you pay the postage.

4. Today is the last day to redeem the caps that say
BUY DEW
OR PEPSI
20oz GET
1 FREE
Some merchants may honor them after today, but others will stick to the rules. If you have any of those caps (which were not available in all areas), I suggest that you turn them in today to be sure. For example, if you have 3 of those caps, buy 6 twenty-ounce bottles for the price of 3. The drinks involved in the promotion are Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Pepsi Wild Cherry, Mountain Dew, Diet Mountain Dew, Mountain Dew Code Red and Sierra Mist. I assume that you can buy Sierra Mist with the buy-1-get-1-free caps even though the caps say "DEW OR PEPSI".

What today's deadline does not mean

Don't panic: You do not have to drink your entire supply of Pepsi and redeem all your winning caps today!

Winning caps can be redeemed in the iTunes Music Store through May 23, 2005. Only those redeemed by April 30 will get you an entry in the drawing on May 2nd.

good to know, there are plenty of yellow capped bottles out by me, so i guess i will continue to buy buy buy, plus i love Seirra Mist, still have four songs on credit on iTMS too

I just beat today's deadline. I saved up 12 two-for-one caps over the past few weeks and went to a warehouse store this afternoon. I got a case of 24 Pepsis for the price of 12. By moving cases around, I found one with yellow caps behind the non-yellow ones that now populate their shelves.

Afterwards, I tipped them all to see what I am going to win. I beat the odds there and got 10 "free tunes" caps out of the 24. The average number of wins is 8 out of 24 based on the odds.

I also got a few more two-for-one caps, but I'm not going back to the store yet again. I'll just let them lapse so nobody accuses me of being compulsive. :D

IMHO this promotion sucks. I live in the western suburbs of Chicago and none of the stores were stocking yellow capped bottles. I managed to spot one at a Hollywood video store and it wasn't a winner(at least not a free song). Last time they ran this promotion the yellow capped bottles didn't roll out until a good month into the promotion, luckly 7/11 also had chances to win on the big gulp cups, but didn't have them this time around. I guess now that the promotion is ending the store shelves will be loaded with them. Other than the super bowl commercial was there any kind of buzz about this giveaway this time around? That's ok, I like Coke products better anyway.

Are you listening, Pepsi? looklost isn't the only one.

Last year they took a month to get the promotional Pepsis to California. This year they got them to us only a week or two late, but missed you. Seems like they are wasting their Superbowl money if they get people excited about it and then don't deliver to the whole country.

Unlike Apple, who wants everything to be a surprise, Pepsi wants you to know about its promo, and it's not a surprise. Wouldn't it make sense for Pepsi to start shipping to all states BEFORE the Superbowl?

Having free tune caps, two-for-one caps (in only some areas), and a daily drawing too, all with different deadlines and rules, made the promotion especially confusing this year. After a year of practice, you'd think they'd see that.

Thanks for the update Doctor Q. I just went buy my last case of yellow cap pepsi. I'm satisfied with my winnings: 28 free songs and 5 free pepsi bottles. However, doesn't amount to Doc's 64.

I just downloaded my 18th song for free!!!

But where's my iPod mini!!?
1 winner every hour - no one here wins...

So, does this mean we'll be seeing a new 'tar?
Yes, but not to update my count. I'll be tired of that Q and need a new one with some other theme. Like a cartoon of a person with a Q-shaped body (with the tail of the Q being his tiny feet under his huge body). He needs to diet after all that Pepsi!

Aarrgh, why did Apple have to team up with Pepsi on this? The only Pepsi product I like is Mountain Dew, and those yellow-capped bottles were scarcer than tumbleweed in the Pacific in my neighborhood.

Congrats, though, Dr. Q - I say be compulsive and cash in your remaining 2-for-1s before midnight.

Tonight at Publix in Tallahasee, FL, I thought I was getting an iTunes Mt. Dew. When I opened it, it had a code...

But under the code says "One Point"

Then I realized that they have already moved on to another promotion, some sports thing where you enter your points online and buy stuff. Bottles still have yellow caps, just didn't think it wouldn't be iTunes. Seems like there is usally a month or so between promos. Oh well, I ended up with 24 winners out of 27 bottles purchased so I can't complain. Too bad I didn't win an iPod though. There is always next year.

I wonder how many people will be throwing away free iTunes caps for the next six weeks because they say "Game Ends 4/11/05" on the top, even though the code inside is good for until May 23? I wouldn't be surprised if a majority of these winning caps get tossed out.

No. :(

I had to get my iPod the old-fashioned way... by stealing it off somebody on a New York subway.

But they haven't had the final drawing yet, so maybe they are just teasing me by waiting until that day to tell me I've won.

BTW, what is the final count, Q?
If you mean my final count, I won't know until my current drink supply runs out. I can only drink 12 gallons of Pepsi a day, so I'm only gradually using them up.

In truth, I only drink a bottle a day. It's a supply I share with my coworkers, who give me the winners, and it'll be a couple of weeks more.

Dr. Q - If I have redeemed my caps and thus have a free song balance (actually haven't gotten the music yet) do I have to use that balance by the May deadline, or is that balance good for a long time?

I can't claim to know for certain, but from what I can tell you simply have to redeem your codes (turning them into song credits) by the deadline, and you can leave those song credits in your account until you get around to using them up anytime later.

It's certainly true that Apple doesn't mind people keeping cash balances in their accounts as long as they like. It's like lending Apple the money until you get around to spending it. Over all the iTunes accounts in the world, that probably adds up to a lot of cash Apple is earning interest on.

The free song credits do expire, but I don't remember the exact date. When you enter your code to get the song credit, it tells you the date you need to use it by. However, I didn't write down when that was, and it seems that there is no way to check without entering another code.

The next time someone enters a winning code, can you please post when it says the song credit must be used by?

Thanks for the heads up. I have just one BOGO cap right now. i will look at the codes a bit more closely now.

Thanks, vieoray. Confirmed.

But what in the world does "limit one free song per each song credit" mean How could that NOT be the case?

Starting this week (now May), there is no longer a Pepsi icon on the iTunes Music Store home page (for entering codes from Pepsi free-iTunes caps), but you can still click the Redeem link on the left of that page and type in a Pepsi code.

Actually, with no disrespect meant to Dr. Q, the label rules (at least on my bottle of diet dew) say the following: BUY ONE GET ONE FREE OFFER: (snip) ... To redeem, bring bottle cap to participating retailer on next store visit by 5/23/05. Limit one per visit. Not all retailers may be participating.

So there's still time.

How interesting. The label on the 20oz Pepsi I'm holding does not mention the get-one-free caps at all, the caps themselves say "game ends 4/11/05", which is ambiguous about which part of the game they mean, and my local retailer told me they don't accept the get-one-free caps since 4/11/05.
