I just got my 16" M1 Pro and it's a great laptop, but the extra weight took a little getting used to. It felt like a brick the first time I held it and I thought, "Oh crap... I hope this weight doesn't cause any problems for me."
That was a ridiculous reaction considering that I hauled around a 15" Unibody for years. After a day of handling my new Macbook Pro it, I'm already getting used to it. I don't feel like I'm dragging a kettle bell around anymore.
For me I think it was more of a psychological adjustment than a physical one. I liken it to those awkward times when you pick up something you expect to be full only to jerk it up wildly because it's actually empty. This was the opposite of that situation.
If you handled a laptop that only weighed 4 pounds with a lot more force than needed, the results could be very bad for your bank account. I handled my new heavier MBP as gingerly as I had become accustomed to handling my Mac laptops. That made it feel extra weighty. To be fair, I do feel the extra weight, but I it just felt far heavier than it really was the first few times I picked it up.
If you visit the Apple store and the weight is the only thing stopping you from getting one, it'll be worth just giving it a try and return it if you don't get used to the weight. It might simply be that your muscle memory just needs to be updated and it'll feel more natural after a week.
