Hey lads,

Is the performance drop (520 MB/s / 320 MB/s x 520 MB/s / 400 MB/s) between the 128 and 256GB versions of the Samsung 830 noticeable ? I got some ideas about my setup and I'd like you to opinate on them:

Base: MBP 2012 13"
External: Seagate USB3 1TB

Option 1:
128 Samsung 830
750GB in optibay

Option 2:
256 Samsung 830
ODD in optibay

I dont require that much space... currently in my windows partition I have ~90GB, all my programs installed and projects, etc.

I will only install a couple IDE's on the Mac, no games, and I'd like to keep the itunes library on the 750GB (Option 1) or on the external (Option 2)

What do you think? I personally think the 128 + 750 on ODD + External will fit me better in terms of "bang for buck" (USD 115 x USD 250)

Thanks for your opinions :)

You didn't elaborate on what you will be doing on the SSD. If it is going to be used purely for OS/Apps, the real-world usage difference will be unnoticeable.

People start criticizing SSD's when they are either malfunctioning or running needless benchmarks.

I agree with your bang/buck assessment.

For basic usage you will never know the difference. Actually for basic usage a Samsung 470 model getting 250MB/s is identical to the 520MB/s 830 model.

NOW...if you are doing things like playing uncompressed 4K footage, you will, without a doubt notice the difference.

Tho, they are offering super high bandwidth to consumers...most will never use it.

Sorry for not defining the laptop use. In 60 percent of my time I'm programming php or ruby on rails. On the remaining time I will surf the Web, do some light (very very light) Web design and Itunes usage.

Do you think the 128 + 750 optibay will fit my needs?

Thanks!
