I'm pretty certain that I'll be purchasing a Macbook Pro next month. What I would like to know whether there is a big difference in performance between the high end 13-inch and the base 15-inch.

Like the 15-inch, is the 13-inch MBP Ram upgradable to 16gb?

I'm just trying to decide whether or not to fork out a couple extra hundred for the base 15-inch.

It all depends on what you plan to do. Surfing the internet and doing e-mails wouldn't be worth it. But anything CPU intensive would be.

And yes the 13" will take 16 GB if you're willing to pay $560 for it. As for what you would use all the RAM for...Virtual Machines.

13'': dual core, integrated graphics
15'': quad core, integrated + dedicated graphics

geekbench says it's 7000 vs. 9300 points in the benchmark. But it really depends on what you want to do, to determine whether there will be a difference in performance.
