Performance of jailbroken 3G multitasking?

I've heard if you jailbreak your 3G iphone running iOS 4, that you can then hack a file and enable multitasking and also the wallpaper feature.

My question is has anyone done this, and if so, what is the performance like?

I'm thinking of trying it, but if enabling multitasking on the 3G makes it run horribly slow or really, really buggy I might not do it.
