I am a recent convert to the Mac world. I had an expensive Sony VAIO laptop I purchased about 2 years ago that was virtually unusable from falling apart in that short time. I couldn't even get the power cord to stay attached to the socket without contorting it in all sorts of different directions. The computer had also slowed to a crawl.
So I took the plunge and bought myself a 15 inch 2012 4GB RAM/500GB classic MBP from Amazon about 3 months ago. After learning more about OS X (which really only took a couple of days to get familiar to the basics), I am in love with my Mac. Wish I had made the switch years sooner. My Mac has been performing great. I have been totally transformed into a fanboy and have bought an AppleTV, an Airport Extreme, and now I'm considering an Ipad.
My only concern is the performance of my MBP over the past week or so. It seems to have coinciding with starting to play "Farmville 2" on Facebook. I notice the battery life drains like a seive if you are playing one of those Flash games, but I keep my Mac plugged in 95% of the time. But I've started getting the spinning beach ball now and then, mostly when one of those flash games is pulled up, or when dealing with ITunes. The only time I ever got the beachball before was when I was using the Superdrive. Last night I was using the Mac and it completely froze. I could move the pointer around the screen but nothing would work at all and had to turn it off. I didn't think Macs were supposed to "freeze" like that. I also used Handbrake to encode a mkv file of a bluray I ripped on my old computer, and my Mac was just about unusable during the Handbrake encoding process. I could do other things, but the beach ball was coming up anytime I tried to open a new app or web page. Is that normal when encoding HD videos?
Just hoping this was an isolated instance. Is there anything I should look for to make sure everything is working properly? Want to keep my Mac experience positive!
