I was wondering if 3d programs like rhino, solid works,Catia, maya ect. Are more CPU intestine as opposed to gpu intensive. Would the 6770m work just as well as 6990m with them?

Depends on the complexity of the scene and resolution. The 6970m would be safe bet, but if you are not doing anything all too special, the 6770m should suffice. I remember playing with 3ds max years ago on a GeForce2...

The iMac's in the media lab at my school run on i5's, 4GB of RAM and 6570m GPU's. They handle Maya but struggle a bit for rendering on occasion. The 6770m should be fine assuming you don't expect anything too insane.
