Just wondering, as the high end macbook pro already comes with 4GB of RAM, can I just buy another 4GB RAM card to stick in the other slot to get me to 8GB?
As people seem to buy 8GB of RAM even though they are already given 4, just curious :p

The 4GB comes in two 2GB sticks, therefore you have to buy two 4GB sticks to get 8GB RAM.
Btw, every current MBP comes with 4GB standard.

Processor and memory
2.0GHz or 2.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with 6MB shared L3 cache; or optional 2.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor with 8MB shared L3 cache
4GB (two 2GB SO-DIMMs) of 1333MHz DDR3 memory; two SO-DIMM slots support up to 8GB

Processor and memory
2.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor with 3MB shared L3 cache or 2.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 processor with 4MB shared L3 cache

MBP only has 2 slots for RAM and pre installed RAM of 4GB (2gb x 2) already occupies them. You would have to buy full 8GB (4GB x 2).
