Hello,
I have been playing around with different OS X versions on my 500mhz iBook G3 Dual USB lately and one issue I had under Tiger is video playback not working properly using QuickTime 7.6.4. I know about the alternative video players out there for Tiger, but I would rather use QuickTime. Under Jaguar (using QuickTime 6.5.3) and Panther (using QuickTime 7.5) MP4 video playback works fine. I just put Tiger back on here, upgrading from Panther, and with QuickTime 7.5 (the same version that was installed under Panther) playback works fine. I'm surprised the Panther version runs under Tiger given that there are separate QuickTime installers for each OS. After applying all the usual updates to Tiger (except for QuickTime 7.6.4) I installed Perian like I usually do for my Tiger and Leopard installs. After I installed Perian video playback didn't work right, I got a black screen and the audio, but no video. This is the same problem I had under QuickTime 7.6.4 on this Mac. I then removed Perian and playback works normally again.
So my question is, what's up with Perian? Why does it mess with playback like this? Are there any settings I should adjust? Should I use an older version? I have Perian installed on my 1.5ghz G4 running Leopard and it doesn't mess up QuickTime. I don't need to have Perian installed on the iBook, but I'm just curious why I'm having problems with it. Anyone else experience problems with Perian on G3s?
Thanks in advance.
