I have an Early 2015 MBP Retina 13" and I want to expand my storage. I've heard too many stories of people having issues replacing the SSD, so i'm going for a different route and getting and SD card.

I had my eyes on the BaseQi adaptor and getting a SanDisk Ultra 256GB, but I was reading on some posts that people have had their ports burn out or issues with their Macs with SD cards that have a large storage.

Would those options work or should I just get a JetDrive SD Card?

Consider that the speed of any SD card is going to be a fraction of the speed of an SSD replacement. The fastest cards will be both slower and more expensive than an SSD will be.

I've done this with Windows tablets (Dell Venue 8 Pro and MS Surface Go) and it works well IF (BIG IF) you use the card for storing data files that don't need high speed access. With my DV8p & Go, this has generally been documents, ebooks, audio, and video files. Both devices will stream HD video from the card without a problem.

I couldn't say how well your MBP will work/survive with a full time card, but my Dell has been in service for 5 years with a mSD card always in place with no failure.
