I don't have a printer, nor do I have any plans to get one. Is there any way I can permanently 'turn down' the printer drivers that Software Update tries to force on me, rather than having to deselect them every time?

Permanently deny 'Epson Printer Software' update?

Usually you only get those printer update alerts for printers you have installed. Look in System Preference in the Print & Scan pane to see if the Epson printer is installed and remove it if it is.
