To elaborate on the title of this post, I typed a phone number in a Note in the stock iOS Notes app. The phone number is formatted as (aaa) xxx-yyyy.

It automatically gets hyperlinked as soon as I tap on "Done" in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Meaning, whenever I tap the phone number after it gets hyperlinked, the following pops up:

This is a very nifty feature. I admit it's great. But in this one particular situation, I want to remove the link. So, as you might expect, I tap on Remove Link (the last option in the menu that pops up, as seen above). And the phone number then becomes straight text (not hyperlinked). Great!

The only problem is that when I tap on "Done" again, the phone number immediately gets hyperlinked again. It also gets hyperlinked if I leave that Note by tapping on the "<" in the upper left-hand corner of the Note and come back into it.

Is there any way to permanently remove the hyperlink and keep it from coming back?

I appreciate Apple's pro-activeness in wanting to help me by hyperlinking the phone number, but I would like to have the choice as to whether I want it done or not.

Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

PS: I have one very ungraceful workaround, which is to use the Scandinavian vowel Ø instead of the zero, or even the standard letter O instead of the zero. This stops the automatic hyperlinking. But even this workaround would only work if the phone number contains a 0, which the phone number I'm typing does happen to contain one.

Looks like a bug. I can recreate it.

I tried various things like removing the dash in the last 7 numbers, switching to an all-dash and all-dot format, etc. It seems everything that looks like a phone number is made into a link. The only option I could find that would NOT do it is put a char BEFORE or AFTER the number, like p555-555-5555 or 555-555-5555p (no space). Maybe make that pho: I also tried the emoji symbol for phone but that still resulted in it becoming a link.

There are plenty of bugs in iOS. Hopefully, there will be fewer by the time we get to about the .5 or .6 upgrades. Others will see this as a useful feature to simplify calling from numbers in notes... so it may not be considered a bug and may never get fixed.

Thank you for checking that out.

You're right, this may not even be considered a bug due to the fact that it does serve a useful purpose as you said.

I wonder if URLs are just as stubborn about keeping their hyperlinked status, but I don't want to open up that can of worms at the moment. In the long run, I think it's something I can learn to live with if no easy fix exists.
