Hi all - I need help!
I have a 2015 12" MacBook on my desk & a Mac mini in another room. The mini has an external disk with File Sharing turned on, where I keep all the files I don't need immediate access to. I recently changed external drive & am now having permission issues.

So for example - I can 'see' the disk from my MacBook and create (and delete) a new folder, but I can't rename the new folder. On the mini I have recursively set the file permissions on this folder to rwxrwxr-- but I think the problem is that when I connect to it from my MacBook it says I'm connecting as my Apple / iCloud ID rather than the admin user I've created on the mini.

So ... how can I connect to the mini as a specific user? I've tried deleting any related entries in Keychain Access, but that didn't help.

Any help very gratefully received .... thanks

I have a similar setup between my iMac and my Mac Mini, but this part is unclear to me -- it might be a feature I don't use. You should be able to connect as a local (to the Mac Mini) account (i.e., the admin user in your case). I happen to have accounts with the same name on both macs but I don't think that's necessary...

This probably isn't the most elegant solution, but on the Mac Mini you could set the drive to "Ignore ownership on this volume." To do that right-click the drive and pick "Get Info". The setting is at the bottom of the info window. This causes the usual Unix-style user permissions to be ignored.
