I put a second drive [OWC SSD] into my mid-2011 MacMini and installed Mavericks 10.9.5 on it. I have kept the original HDD system in place and bootable [also Mavericks] but, when I try to access my user files on that drive, booting from the SSD, permission is denied.
I know I can administrate permissions from Get Info, but have heard that it's best not to alter permissions for folders that the System created, like my User folder and it's Document folder. The last time I tried this, I wound up with system issues, so I am now appealing to the community.
Is there a smart way to keep these two drives bootable, with files that they can share between them? My idea now is to make my own folder on the root and change permissions for that, but I would rather be able to work with the existing hierarchy on the old drive, since I've been using it for years and know it that way.
I also read that file ownership, as the System sees it, will be an issue working across the two but I don't understand this fully. I wonder if there's a way to keep the same User Account profile across these different installs, kind of like how iCloud knows it's me.
