Permissions don't stick

I have three users accounts that I switch back and forth to and I share files among them all (esp. Vmware Fusion images). I've noticed that, say, I share a folder from account1 to allow access for account2 to use (change read and write access). Great! It works while I am there. But once I log off or reboot or anything along those lines, the permission no longer sticks. There are no permissions problems to repair.
