While trying to get 2 seperate iMacs to share the same folder, I stupidly changed the permissions of both macs hard drives and now everything is messed up.

I tried restarting one of the macs and it wouldnt start up past the grey screen. So now with my install disk im repairing permissions on that iMac.

idk if thats gonna work though if not is there anything else i can try?

Repairing permissions should fix this for you seeing as that is what got messed up. If it doesn't for some reason, a reinstall of OS X is probably the only other fix (Archive & Install, or a reinstall from a Time Machine backup).

Either way I hope all works out for you.

Well, after doing archive and install on both imacs they are both running just as they were earlier that day. . . . EXCEPT

someone else who was working on this with me, also decided to change the permissions to our back up harddrive. Now we dont seem to have access to chance the permissions back, nor access any of the data on the back up disk. Also time machine cant back up to this disk (presumably because it doesnt have permission either)

How can I fix this? I imagine it should be an easy fix, right?
