I've got 10 yrs worth of Photo's and Video's stored on a Seagate Central network drive and i'm unable to access around 20% of the files.

When I try to open them, i get the message The file “IMG_1106.JPG” couldn’t be opened because you don’t have permission to view it., so I go into Get Info and see the following in the permissions

hhhh

I can't change the 'everyone' permission as it wont let me change anything. Also the username above that has read/write access isnt my current username on my Mac.

Tried lots of things suggested in various forums but nothing seems to be working. Has anyone else come across this issue, or have any advice.

Thanks

Maybe try resetting the user account(s) on the web portal of the Seagate Central, make sure all the settings for shared folders look right. I'm not familiar with the Seagate Central so I don't know what configuration possibilities it gives you.

I hope for you it doesn't use a 3TB ST3000DM001 drive, they have an absurdly high failure rate compared to other disk drives. In either case, it's good to have a backup of the data on it.

Thanks for this, unfortunately the Seagate Central doesnt allow resetting the user account. It's the 4TB drive, which hopefully is more reliable.

Regardless, you need to get a backup of all the files you can access, immediately.
