Day 1'ers. As you have probably already realized, we can upgrade at the cheaper 199/299 pricing to the iPhone 3Gs on 7/12. However, due to Apple releasing the 3gs in less than a full year, we can not go day 1 again this year unless we want to pay an EXTRA $200. I think this is merely an oversight on Apple/ATTs part and they would not want to lose all the marketing hype from the day 1 lines, etc, that they are going to lose without us. In addition, they do not want to the huge amounts of upset people that are subject to this situation. Somehow we need to petition to get this fixed, as I am sure apple will step in for us Day 1 people, as they are that kind of company.

You can upgrade about 3 months before the date of your last upgrade I believe. And you didn't get the original iPhone for a subsidized price, so you're definitely already eligible to upgrade for the $199/$299 price of the 3G S.

Edit: Oh, didn't realize this guy was talking about 3G owners.
Yeah, you won't be eligible for a long, long time. Not just 3 weeks...

Anyone confused by the logic of the OP or lackthereof?

The iPhone wasn't subsidized from day 1 and petitions are silly.

+1

Keep dreaming...also its 18 months not 12

Mine says 7/12/09... and I've been day 1, around 20th in line, both years. Interestingly, one of my co-workers whose been in line with me but on family plan.. his says 3/12/10

Petitions worked when Rogers in Canada wouldn't bump up the data plans at reasonable prices. If it gets big enough it could attract the attention of local news stations, radio, etc.

Right. Can you imagine the news team interviewing some fanboy. "Yeah, I got mine the first day it came out, and now I have to wait a month. This is just wrong. I always get to be first!!! This is not fair!"

Mine is December 11th, 2009.

I bought the 3G on day 1 too.

I think there's a ferret pulling levers who decides the dates for each account.

Clearly you don't remember when Apple stepped in and gave early-adopters $100 store credit? Or all the other times Apple has flexed policy and done nice things for the apple community. Most companies would have not done that and I think this is just an oversight due to the product/pricing team not thinking through the calendar release timing and ATT contract thing.

ummm..... i paid full price for my first gen iphone the weekend they went on sale. ATT didn't offer subsidized pricing until the 3g which means all 1st gen users are available for an upgrade unless they've since upgraded phones.
so what are you trying to say?
