I've got a real technical puzzle on my hands, and I'm hoping someone out there might have an opinion. I have two iPhone 4S models exhibiting this behavior...
AT&T reports avg of 130MB per day of cellular usage, the iPhone reports only 10MB of cellular data usage per day.
I have 120MB of cellular data that AT&T sees, and the iPhone doesn't see. Every day!
Historically, I average 10MB/day - have done for 3+years. AT&T's historical graphs also show that average. Beginning March 13th, AT&T suddenly shows a massive increase each day.
But... the iPhones do not!
I've run Dataman and it agrees with the iPhone numbers - that I'm still averaging about 5-10MB/day of cellular data.
Wife's iPhone is doing it too.
Started same day, March 13th. We run different apps, connect to different mail servers, but in any case, since the iPhone isn't registering this "data usage", whatever it is must be incoming data, and clearly isn't reaching the phones.
We have 4S models. Our teenagers have iPhone 4 models, theirs are not exhibiting this behavior. All are on iOS 5.1 and not jailbroken.
I'm not new to iOS or technical issues. But I can't fix a data leak if the iPhone isn't reporting one. No data monitoring app can help me, because the iPhone isn't "seeing" this data usage.
I've opened tickets at Apple and AT&T. So far, no help from either of them. If anyone has experienced this, I'd love to know what you did to resolve it. Thanks!
