Weird issue, hopefully simple solution.
I recently installed a new 250 GB SSD into my 2010 MB pro. I used Carbon Copy Cloner. Once the SSD was installed I followed the procedures for copying everything from the old HD to the new SSD. I named the new SSD as "Mac SSD". Then, because I wanted to be sure that I didn't lose anything from the old HD, I created a desktop folder with all of the files that were on the original HDD and named it "Mac HD." I then transferred all the files that were on the old HD to that new folder called "Mac HD."
When I start the MB pro, I now have 2 HD icons (i.e., the gray HD disc icon) on the desktop, one titled "Mac HD" and the other titled "Mac SSD."
The thing that's driving me crazy is, when I click each of those icons and select "Get Info", BOTH of them show a capacity of ~240 GB. How is that possible? When I go into /Volumes, I see that one of them is 1KB in size, likely an alias. But if it's an alias, I wouldn't expect the problems I've been having, because an alias is just a shortcut to the actual file, right?
For example, when I work with files (say, MS Word), I sometimes can't find what I worked with before - suddenly, the file is nowhere where it should be. Like if I used a file that is in folder "Y", I no longer can find that file (or even folder "Y") but, after using Finder, I can locate it in some obscure folder like "Downloads" within one or the other HD (i.e., Mac HD or Mac SSD).
Any idea what's going on? Surely I don't have two HDs with the same capacity - I only have one (the SSD) that is 250 GB. Can I delete the "alias" HD listed in /Volumes? The laptop is running slowly; somewhere I read it may be b/c the system is waiting for the older HD to spin up or something. Any thoughts, suggestions, appreciated. Sorry if this is an obvious fix and I'm a moron...
