Early in 2021, I got 2 M1 Macbook Airs, one for me and one for my 87-year-old mom. Both of us have the cursor randomly moved and "clicks" made while we are touch-typing. We have both been touch-typists for many decades, and this model is the only computer where we've had this problem. From my reading, it seems that we "type wrong" because our hands brush on the touchpad. Brushing by our palms seems to be interpreted as dragging to move the mouse. Sometimes subtle motion of our hand or possibly a contraction of muscles in our palms triggers a click, resetting the cursor to some new location. If that happens while typing, any text selected is deleted, and any text typed goes in the wrong place. This is very disruptive. I am often typing while looking elsewhere, which is kind of the point of touch-typing, isn't it? We now have to spend significant extra time correcting errors or retyping something that was dropped.
Any tips would be appreciated (that don't involve contortions or learning how to type some new and different way...
.
FTR, I have touch-to-click turned off. I have rebooted numerous times. I am on the latest OS. I have "click" set to "firm." I have also tried taping over part of the touchpad. That has worked to some extent, but it requires multiple layers of tape, which are then thick enough that the screen gets marks on it; it doesn't seem like a good solution. I also don't want to carry an extra keyboard or use an external pointing device.
