Well, if I can get something to run on Wine I could try that too.

I miss the hell out of this game, and haven't found anything to quite scratch that itch.

I don't like turn based - must be real time. Atmospheric music, engaging gameplay, must be able to truly advance your civilization to modern times and beyond.

Have tried and couldn't get into:

CIV IV
CIV V
Cities skyline (why are the gfx so basic - this is 2018)
Warcraft 3
one other the name escapes me...

Anything I've missed?

Age of Mythology? I remember that was a belter. Windows only though. They've got a remastered version on Steam.

Caesar II was one of my favourites when I was a youngling. It's on Abandonware here: https://www.myabandonware.com/game/caesar-ii-2at#download

For any DOS games (like Caesar II), run it on Boxer. It's basically DOSBox but without the ache of setting it up: http://boxerapp.com

Maybe Populous, but that's really old. The 3D one was great fun but pretty basic by today's standards.

Or you could get Pharaoh: http://store.steampowered.com/app/564530/Pharaoh__Cleopatra/

All my suggestions are oldies I'm afraid.

Thanks for the suggestions! Really I'd like something new - yes I like to turn all the eye candy up to 11. Age of Mythology and Populous seem to ring a bell from back in the day - will check those out.

Am I the only person who thinks Cities Skylines is just ugly with a poor interface?
