Philips 29" Monitor for Mac Pro?

I am thinking of getting this 29" Philips monitor for my Mac Pro.

What do you think?

I have had two Apple Cinema Displays that developed the same fault, wave pattern on the screen, so I shall not get another one.

This Philips looks good.

What do you plan to use this monitor for? That is, what's the primary thing you do with your computer?

I have a friend who bought the Dell version of the 29" panel.

He likes the image quality, but DISLIKES the fact that the display is somewhat limited in the vertical size of the image (number of pixels) from top-to-bottom.

It displays fewer pixels vertically than a typical 24" display.
A page is "cut off" either at the top or bottom.

Be sure you can accept this, before you go to this display form factor.

What do you plan to use this monitor for? That is, what's the primary thing you do with your computer?

WP with Scrivener, some photo editing, presentations with Keynote, Web browsing and from time to time some games.

May depend on your video card, but I would imagine if it currently does a cinema display it might. But it is, as noted before, a bit of an odd-ball aspect. You might check into 2560x1440 IPS monitors (vs 2560x1080 on the Philips). There are lots out there, and it would probably look sharper for text use than the 21:9. Most games and presentations are gonna have to be at 16:9 to be compatible anyway.
