I'm considering a Philips BDM4065UC monitor. It is the only 40" 3840x2160 screen with DisplayPort that I know of. It seems ideal for getting more screen work space as it has a similar pixel pitch to a 27" 2560x1440 monitor.

Has anyone tried it? Do you get the full resolution at 60Hz when connected by DisplayPort? I'm looking at using it with a 15" rMBP.

There is absolutely no reason why this monitor would not run at 60Hz. It has a DP 1.2 port, which is all that your MacBook requires to run 3840x2160 @ 60 Hz.

One review said this: "The final setup option concerned DisplayPort. By default the Philips uses DisplayPort 1.1, which only supports 4K at 30Hz. To get 60Hz at 4K working properly, we delved into the OSD and changed the relevant option in the setup menu."

Here is a fairly recent review of the monitor. Wonder what the USA price will come in at?

TFT Central also did one of it's ever-detailed reviews:

Also, hardforum has a thread on this monitor with 1800+ posts, so you should be able to find everything you need to know right here:

The reason it might not work at 60Hz is the Apple support page that says 4K runs at 30Hz on SST monitors, which the Philips is. It only mentions MST working at 60Hz.

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202856

With OS X Mavericks v10.9.3 or later, the following DisplayPort displays are supported at their default using single-stream transport (SST) at 30Hz.

The review links only refer to 60Hz on Windows.

However, the forum does eventually have someone saying it will work at 6Hz on a 15" rMBP.

A common thing in the reviews is it having PWM, and not a great frequency. So I think I might wait and see how the Seiki 40" reviews when it arrives.
